Beetle Bridges
Science and Art -
The International
Institute for Species Exploration commissions a new beetle art
piece. "Whirligig" was
given to Barbara Orbison, the widow of the Roy Orbison during the
January 25, 2008 tribute concert. The piece is based on the beetle Gyrinidae (Coleoptera), Orectochilus orbisonorum, sp. nov,
found in India. The beetle's patronym name (orbisonorum)
comes from the musician Roy Orbison and his wife Barbara.

Explore the Paper Project - During the Summer of 2006
the Paper Project were fortunate to travel to Lolgorian Kenya. Students
in classrooms were able to explore the 2D and 3D world of paper
fibers. The
materials remain in Kenya and we hope that many more students will
have a chance to explore and enjoy the inner beauty of paper.
